Exercise For Your Moodby Kristoph Thompson
Our frame of mind can have a huge impact on our exercise regime, we often just go through the motions because our mind is occupied elsewhere, or just head straight home instead of going to the gym. Rather than letting mood have a negative effect on exercise, simply modify the type of exercise you do and use your mood to your advantage!

You're Angry
When we’re angry our emotions have already reached their peak. If you’re in a rage, choose exercise with a calming effect to help restore your normal temperament. Yoga is an excellent choice to take you off boiling point. The controlled breathing will steady your heart rate and the poses will challenge your mind as well as your body. Give 100% attention to the activity in hand, leaving no room for your anger to creep back in and distract you. Use the relaxation part of the class to draw your awareness inside yourself, forgetting all your negative thoughts and letting go of the last of your anger once and for all.

You're Nervous
Whether you’re an eternal worrier or just have something scary on your mind, exercise can help to deal with nerves. When you’re feeling nervous, you need a confidence boost, and you’ll see that what ever is bothering you is not so scary after all. Steer clear of uncertainty, pick a familiar activity or something you know that you do well. Feeling comfortable in your choice of exercise will give you a much-needed confidence boost. Think back to a time when you had a great workout and try to replicate these activities. Success does wonders for our self-esteem and you’ll feel on top of the world in no time.

You're Frustrated
Exercise is the smart way to relieve frustrations – and it’s guaranteed to work every time. If you let your frustrations build up it’s likely that you will end up blowing your top. If you take them out on a good workout, you’ll get home feeling like a great weight has been lifted from your mind. If you’re frustrated it’s important to choose explosive exercise like body combat or a good training session. Channel your frustrations into making high energy movements and punch, kick, or lift away all your aggression, Just remember that good technique is important. Concentrate on making controlled movements and not on what has been winding you up all day long.

You're Happy
If you’re in a good mood already – lucky you! Use your mood to push your workout a step further. Try something new or increase the level, intensity or distance of activity you’ve done before. Because you’re feeling happy you’ll be more receptive to new challenges. You’ll be able to approach the new activity with a positive outlook which means that you will be more likely to succeed! Once you’ve had a great workout and your good mood is still going strong, you’ll have a new activity to add into your current programme.
