Bilberry (Myrtillus Fructus)



General Description: A shrubby perennial that grows in meadows and woods. It produces black berries that contain many small brownish-red seeds.

Part Used: Fruit

Uses: varicose veins, diarrhea, peptic ulcers, eye conditions: glaucoma, improves night vision

Actions: Stimulates re-growth and reproduction of collagen. Stabilizes capillary membranes. Antioxidant, and increases prostaglandin E.

Dosage: Bilberry extract 80- 160 mg 3 times a day

Precautions/Adverse Reactions: None known

Contraindications: None known

Nursing Considerations:
Warn patients if experiencing diarrhea for several days, stop and consult a health care provider.
No known effects reported when used with pregnant/lactating women.
